Some people find their calling. Mine found me — one dog, one family, and one moment at a time.
I’m Theresa Cahill, founder of A1 Critter Sitters & Training in Riverhead, New York, now called A Paw Forward Retreat. What started as a pet care business grew into something I hadn’t fully anticipated — a deep passion for dog training and behavior. For the past 8 years, professional dog training has become my primary focus, and I haven’t looked back.
I work with real dogs and real families — the leash-reactive dog who can’t walk past another dog without losing his mind, the puppy who needs a solid foundation, the family who wants to enjoy their dog without the stress. That’s who I show up for, every single day.

Every great trainer has a partner. Mine is Uriel — my Beauceron, my demo dog, and my best ambassador. He’s living proof of what’s possible when training is done with patience, consistency, and respect for the dog in front of you.

What I Believe

Dogs change lives. Not just as pets — but as anchors, healers, and bridges between people who need connection and a world that moves too fast. That belief shapes everything I do, from a basic leash manners session to my specialized programs for families of neurodivergent children and veterans.
